Bonus time
It's that time of year, the time of year when some companies reward their loyal workers with a Christmas bonus. Luckily for us, Cablevision is one of those companies.
I know that there are plenty of companies that do not give out Christmas bonuses. And I commend and thank Cablevision's management for giving us bonuses. But that will not stop me from looking a gift horse in the mouth.
The Christmas bonus does not appear to be based on anything but grade level. Not time of service, not performance incentives, it is simply based on your position in the company. And you know our position in the company, at the bottom to where all the shit flows, and that also can describe our bonus.
I know I may be biased but we call center workers are the hardest working employees that Cablevision has. And that is due to the incredible volume of calls that we handle combined with the Statistics we are forced to maintain.
So for all our hard work, stress and aggravation, Cablevision throws us a bone and gives us ONE weeks pay. That's right, we get a check containing a whopping 1/52of our yearly salary.
Of course the higher up in the company, the greater the percentage of your salary you get. It is not enough that they make so much more money, their bonus has to be a greater percent of their salary, up to 40% and more at the management level! It's not like Cablevision skimps on management's salary, in addition to their 6 figure salary, they get $30K-$90K as a bonus? What the Fuck?
IMO, that's bullshit.
So while management goes yacht shopping, I get to hand over my bonus to a mechanic to keep my 10 year old POS car running.
One week's friggin' pay......Merry Fucking Christmas.

Yep, 1 weeks pay is what a TSG rep gets from Cablevision while our illustrious managers enjoy bonuses that rival an entire years pay for the rest of us. Remember that bonus is the fruit of TSG's labor for the past year. We busted our asses to keep ASA in line so they can get rewarded for it. And it should be mentioned that the 1 weeks pay we get as a bonus is taxed to the point of it being worthless. Make 2006 a year to get your shit together and organize TSG. Make a phone call to Local 1049. Speak to Rick Fridell, sign a union authorization card. Only you can transform this company into a decent place to work.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all at TSG.
Oh, and just how much of a bonus would the union be giving each tech?
Unions are ALWAYS a good idea- just ask the rank and file of the TWU that just lost 2 days pay for every one they were on strike and will have no hope of getting that back. Not to mention, I bet a deal was already cut to keep the leadership out of jail, but taking nearly every nickel of dues paid over the last 5 years in fines.... Unions are the answer......
No different then most companies. At my last company, my manager would get 2x the bonus I got. It's the way it is. He got paid more then me. His manager got paid more then him. I guess it's that crazy whacky "management" thing... you know, as you move up in an organization, they compensate you more. Go figure!!!
If you're unhappy, send me your bonus. I'll put it toward a portion of what I bought my family for Christmas this year. Of course, I probably pay more in taxes a week then you take home, but if you're not greatful for something extra, then by all means, send it my way!!
Merry Christmas Scrooge!!
We might as well get management to join this union because im sure boler, and the dolans and rutledge and kp mayo and all their bonuses rival a manager's salary
Uhh, I dont see the problem.
Give your bonus back if you dont like it and get a new job.
We got a party too..
Shut the fuck up allready you fucking Nancy..
"Uhh, I dont see the problem.

So you have no problem working your ass off all year to see management get bonuses larger than your salary?
Your a total moron.
I guess he is happy with a 32 cent yearly raise.... a party...golly gee, did anyone show up?
So you busted your ass off for a 2% raise, a christmas party, and your management getting down payments for a house, and the worst part...still no future with that company and surviving day by day by the insane stats and ridiculous expectations. Now I guess you can see why the standards are so tight and the turnover rate is so high. Besides being in a deploirable atmosphere, They will eliminate anyone who will affect that bonus and it has nothing to do with people slacking...Who needs to put up with that shit....wake up man, the place is a shithole and you all continue to let it be that way.
My buddy is a transit worker and the 1 week lost pay is negligable to them in standing for everything they worked hard to get. They are at a different mental plain than you people are. Transit workers are making 50-60k a year, can retire at 55 with a full pension and medical, that is what they were fighting for and I would too, If I was about to lose it. We are tired of giving our livelihood away and that is what union reps were standing for, even if it led to an illegal strike. Nobody benefits from a strike, and they were making a point where people finally realize how important transit is to them, the city and the MTA. If you don't have the stomach to make things better, then just continue your little petty existance as it is at TSG now. The bottom line is people are demanding the chance to make a decent living now and when they retire for all their hard work with a company as the cost of living goes through the roof.
Thats where I disagree with you . actually onsite techs usually work more and face customers. while you can "accidentally" drop your call, they have no choiceas to stay there with a customer.
in reference to unions, all union leaders are crooks they always get out while other left and pay for consequences. While some got 14 k check, others were left out paying 6 days in fines. BTW as a proof, those, who where in charge , took vocations conveniently right on time and will not be penalized.
BTW union doesn't care about individuals. if you get fired, trust me, union will not protect you so if you want, pissedofftech, continue kissing ass of Rick Fridell it won't do anything to save your stinky ass.
The only crook you should be worried about is your current employer that is raping you and their customers every day and could care less about you. You will really get a taste at raise time, and their is nothing you can do about it without getting fired, You are at their will. You cannot be any more alone than working for this company. I am sick and tired of really good employees dissapearing here, voluntarily or not, it makes all our jobs here more difficult. Unions are not the answer for all places, but it would do wonders for us here, their is no other way to gain respect and have employees move in a positive direction with these people. Their is no future for the employee here, we are treated like crap and highly disposable.
you are not offered a future here because this company does not expect you to be around for one, And I guess that is ok with all of you..how pathetic. So it must be the free cable that hooks all of you in and so afraid of leaving or demanding better. And you are willing to deal with such a pathetic atmosphere of BPA stats, favortism, non stop calls without a decent break, no rotation of duties to alleviate stress, split days off, working weekends, working holidays, seniority means nothing, pathetic raises, incompetant managers that care aonly about a number on a screen,5 whole sick days a year, and don't you dare be sick more than that, every second of your 8 hours under a microscope, etc, etc.. All to make your owners and managers filthy rich and leaving you stressed out and looking for another job in 2-3 years. And the best part is All of this while working for a utility company that has monopolized it's market in a local geographical area. Not like it's some rinky dink company starting out. What a great place to work man, They really do appreciate all their current and former employees hard work to get them where they are, and the turnover rate shows that. I guess some people have never seen any better and will settle for anything...how sad
The many VOC members that have left Cablevision for better things are having a get together on Thursday nite 12/06 at Mighty Quinns on Main street in Bay Shore at 7:00.
You all must remember the VOC, you know the guys that sacrifised and risked their jobs to educate all of you. The guys that gave their all to make things better for all of you.
The guys that moved on to better things after being screwed by their fellow employees. Most of the field services VOC have gone on to Local 1049 and Keyspan. I myself have been working as a Senior Network Administrator since leaving that shithole called TSG.
Respect is a sweet thing, and its something you will never get at TSG. Unless you organize a union.
I cant wait to see Rick, Pod, Paddy and all my buddies from the VOC. Those times were educational and rewarding. Regardless of the outcome, it was worth every minute. Anybody in the TSG VOC is invited. See you there.
12/06???? Thanks for posting this a month late.......

Verizon launches TV service in Massapequa Park
RICHARD J. DALTON JR.
January 24, 2006
Customers in Massapequa Park can start signing up today for Verizon's FiOS TV, a competitor to Cablevision.
The launch of the television service will be Verizon's first entry in New York. The service runs over high-speed fiber-optic cables wired directly to the homes.
Verizon offers an expanded basic television package, including local channels, 180 digital channels, 47 music channels and 20 high-definition channels, for $34.95.
The newly installed cables also allow high-speed Internet access - download speeds of 30 megabits per second and upload speeds of 5 megabits per second.
Cablevision recently upgraded its Internet service for free, offering downloads at 15 megabits per second and 2 megabit-per-second upload speeds. The company also offers higher speeds for additional cost.
Verizon's new service means the company can offer television service, Internet service and phone service.
Cablevision offers a package of its iO interactive television service, its Optimum Online Internet service and its Optimum Voice Internet-based telephone service.
Verizon is seeking franchises in several other Long Island communities but won't disclose where it will launch services next.
